  1. THANK YOU… we could NOT do this without you–relational discipleship
  2. You are FREE… to go to church plant, become a home group (it’s not too late) etc…
  3. (Go through the bookmark with this verse… as an option for how to lead your group)
    • 1 THESSALONIANS 2:8 So, being affectionately desirous of you, 
we were ready to share with you 
not only the gospel of God 
but also our own selves, 
because you had become very dear to us.
  4. TAKEAWAYS FROM THE VERSE:
    • repetition of LOVE (affection and dear to us as bookends–motivation)
    • contrast: share not only msg (convenient, not costly) “but also” your whole life/self (inconvenient, costly, time consuming, sacrificial)
    • Paul got this discipleship method from Jesus. Jesus didn’t just give a msg, he gave himself, his life, entered our world, it was time consuming and costly, and because of/motivated by LOVE
    • Application: In your groups, give yourselves, not just a lesson, open your home, open your life, love, trust the Lord to multiply your resources to do so.

 

  1. SMALL GROUP LEADER TIPS:

1) Set the Mood (Hospitality, come early to make the room look nice, greet with a smile and genuine love)

2) Teach them to fish (how to study for themselves 7 days/wk)

3) Ask questions. (don’t just preach a sermon; facilitate)4)Get their noses in the text. (ask “do you see in this verse…?” not “what do you think about…?”

5) Save time for application… We get to help them personally process with the Spirit (“what are you hearing? what are you struggling with? what lies are you believing that we can replace with truth?” etc) in a way a sermon can’t.

6) Make time for prayer. (Beginning, end or both, but not an afterthought)

7) Relationships!!! (Hang with your group outside the 4 walls at least 1/sem)

8 ) Who’s your Timothy/ina? (Always be discipling yourself out of a job, training up someone to take you place when it comes time to multiply)
